For the visiting Americans

Travel Information

Flight Recommendation
There are no direct flights from the USA to Marseille, but the easiest routes to take are transferring at either London Heathrow (LHR) or Paris Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG).

From the Marseille Airport (MRS), you will easily be able to call a taxi which is a short distance from the center of town, in the old port.

You may also fly direct to Paris and take a high speed train (TGV) to Marseille, which takes on average 3.5 hours and is direct with no changeovers. Booking may be done in the SNCF application, or website.

Places of Interest

We have made a list of sights of interest, in case you prefer to stay in the area before or after the ceremony to see what the region has to offer!

Marseille:

Palais Longchamp: a monument in the 4th arrondissement of Marseille, France. It houses both the Musée des beaux-arts and the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Marseille. The surrounding Longchamp Park is listed by the French Ministry of Culture as one of the Notable Gardens of France.

Mucem: The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations is the only museum of society whose scientific project is fully dedicated to the cultures of the Mediterranean.

The Massif des Calanques: a wild and rugged terrain stretching from the ninth arrondissement of Marseille to the east towards Cassis, spanning 20 km in length and 4 km in width along the coast. Its highest peak is Mont Puget at 565m. The area has been protected by a national park since 2012. If you would like to go for a hike, be sure to pack shoes and clothing to do it, as they are typically steep inclines, but the views are breathtaking!

Neighboring Towns:
Cassis: Located about 30 minutes from Marseille, Cassis is one of the most well-known and popular villages in the Marseille region. Initially a small, peaceful fishing port, the village has become a must-see tourist destination thanks to its charming old quarters, its shady and cool squares where great games of pétanque are played, and its direct access to the most beautiful creeks in the region.
Aix-en-Provence: A city of art and history, known for its avenues lined with plane trees, its elegant fountains, and its rich cultural heritage, Aix, often nicknamed « the little Paris of Provence », offers an upscale living environment, where it is good to stroll through the cobbled streets of the historic center, visit the many art galleries, or enjoy the sunny terraces of the cafés.

Alternatively, if you rent a car you can drive along the entire coast and visit even more regions of the south, including St Tropez, Antibes, Cannes, Nice, & Menton. You can pass through the lavender fields of Valensole on your drive: the end of May is quite early for the season but you may be lucky to start to view the sea of lavender flowers start to bloom!
